3 Reasons why the wedding venue is first

by Mollie O'Sullivan

When it comes to the organisation of your perfect day there can be a lot of concealed expectations when the frustration of what is feasible comes to light. These expectations are generally weaved up in the young and romantic stages of our lives and unceremoniously destroyed as people start to tell you what can and can’t be done, ruining what in your mind you had dreamed and deemed the only possible way this day was going to play out.

Alleviating these frustrations can be as simple as choosing your wedding venue first and here’s why:

1. The Date

Getting the date you want all relies on your venue.

The date you get married on is incredibly significant, not only does it represent the day that you will fondly remember and lovingly celebrate each year with your loved one, but choosing a date also means choosing a day. Maybe you’re the type that is happy to have a relaxed midweek wedding, or maybe you’re the type to refuse anything that isn’t 3pm on a Saturday. Regardless, if the venue is popular, they’ll be the first to tell you that all the good dates are taken. Better to get this step out of the way now than have all your hopes and dreams crushed later on. Not only that but the season you get married in will determine the mood and theme of the overall wedding. Summer, autumn, winter and spring all hold their own charm and vary in temperature and the amount of natural lighting, factors which all play a part on deciding whether your wedding is indoors or outdoors, the style of dress and the overall feel of the event.

2. Deciding on style and theme

The venue will set the overall tone.

Space can never be overestimated as the entire atmosphere is created from it and within it. Whether it’s a bare-bone church lit only by candles or a rustic one hundred year old cottage with sweeping views of the ocean, the venue will be the dive board for all aesthetic decisions to come.

3. The logistics of event planning

Location is the centre of many decisions.

You can’t lock in that catering company if you’re still yet to decide on what part of the country you’ll be getting married in. Catering, celebrant, photographer, entertainment and florist, are just some of the services that can’t be decided on until your location is set in stone. Of course whether or not you’ve chosen a venue within reasonable proximity to your guests or not might provide you with the task of researching accommodation and transportation options. In any case, the pressure of coordinating an event as momentous as a wedding will be relieved as soon as the venue is penciled in.
